As part of the Transplant Games of America, we had the pleasure of attending the Quarter Century Club Dinner on the USS Midway located in San Diego, CA. This historic ship weighs in at 97 tons, was in service for 47 years and more than 200,000 American veterans served aboard her.

Nicknamed the Midway Magic, it was the perfect setting for the Quarter Century Club Dinner. Our event was located on the flight deck surrounded by restored aircraft including jet fighters, attack aircraft and helicopters. We enjoyed dinner and dancing underneath the iconic “41” of this impressive vessel.

The USS Midway is open to the public and you can visit the ship in the San Diego Harbor. In addition to the aircraft, there are multiple exhibits, self-guided audio tours and the Remembrance Wall, just to get you started. Admission ranges from $18 – $26 with multiple discounts available. With the addition of several elevators and access routes, approximately 60 percent of the Museum’s exhibits are wheelchair accessible. The Midway also offers free admission for a professional caregiver accompanying a guest with a disability.

This was my first time aboard the USS Midway and I would highly recommend you make some time to tour this floating city the next time you are in San Diego.
